About This / Us / Them

Hello & welcome,
PC Play is a hardware guides and reviews site built for PC gamers who want straight answers without the waffle – although there is some fun & mickey taking.
I’ve been playing games my whole life. Started on 90s Nintendo and Sega — Shinobi, Street Fighter, Streets of Rage, Canon Fodder — the kind of games that didn’t ask anything of you except your time and your attention. No battle passes, no live service updates, no monetisation strategy. Just games.
I came to PC gaming properly about four or five years ago, and I built pc-play.com because I was fed up with the alternative. Every gaming site I visited felt like a shopping catalogue with SEO bolted on. Recommendations that existed because of affiliate rates. Reviews that existed because of review copies. Guides written by someone who’d clearly never touched the hardware they were writing about. The whole thing reeked of money first, gamer second.
I’m not pretending pc-play.com is a charity. There are affiliate links here and if you buy something through one of them I’ll earn a small commission. But that’s different from building a site around extracting money from people who just want to know what keyboard to buy.
This place is mine. I built it myself, figured it out as I went, drew the illustrations myself — are they on brand? Who cares. They’re mine. The mascot wandering around the keycaps and arcade cabinets has no name and no backstory. He just showed up and I kept drawing him.
If you find something useful here, brilliant. If you want to tell me I’m wrong about something, the contact page is over there.
Whether you’re building your first gaming setup, upgrading an ageing rig, or just trying to figure out which monitor is actually worth the money — we’re here to help you make better buying decisions.
— Jimmy
